Abstract

This research demonstrates the optimization of Long Reach Directional Drilling (LRDD) borehole trajectories by combining detailed 3D geological modeling with methane emission predictions for post - exploitation goaf areas in a Polish multi - seam coking coal m ine. Conducted study employed multi - scale geological modeling approaches from regional to local levels to maximize methane drainage performance. Effective methane capture requires strategic sealing of isolation dams to direct gas flow toward drai nage boreholes. The investigation evaluated multiple sealing technologies and materials, particularly resin and polymer - based systems, aimed at preventing methane leakage from abandoned mine areas into active ventilation systems. Laboratory testing confirmed th at optimally selected sealing materials substantially improve methane emission management, thereby enhancing mine safety through reduced methane levels in ventilation air.
