Abstract

There are increasing popularity foreign of rock materials in recent years. Asian countries, mainly China and India, they have an increasing influence on the import of stone. An advantage of importing foreign stones is the extension of the range of colors and visual effects. The use of stone components in building construction requires a thorough knowledge of their properties, methods of exploitation and the ability to obtain the desired shape and texture. An important aspect is also the identification of destructive factors that will affect the product made of rock material. This paper presents an assessment of the properties of rock material in the Indian region, mainly slates, in terms of their ability to be used in climatic conditions of Poland. All slates have similar textures and mineral composition, but physical and mechanical properties and resistance to climatic factors were different. This shows that not all stones are suitable for the same application in construction.
