Poděbrady , located in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, is a well - known spa town specialising in cardiovascular disease treatment. This study examines the historical development, construction trends, and urban planning concepts of the town in relation to its hydrogeological and geological settings. Drawing on archival research, historical map s, literature review, and field surveys, the paper documents the transformation of a predominantly agricultural settlement into a modern spa destination. The major construction boom occurred in the first third of the 20th century under the guidance of architect František Janda, followed by socialist - era expansion and post - 1989 revitalisation. The findings highlight the close link between spa development and natural mineral water resources, the influence of urban planning on architectural character, and the role of heritage preservation in maintaining identity. The results provide a reference for sustainable development strate gies in spa towns with valuable hydrogeological assets .
