Abstract

This study proposes the development, validation, and integration of mathematical models for estimating pollutant emissions (CO₂, SO₂, NOx, CO) from fossil fuel combustion and their atmospheric dispersion in complex terrain regions. Currently, Romania lacks a unified national model capable of describing both emission generation and ground-level immission fields simultaneously. In this first research phase, analytical methods for emission calculation based on stoichiometric combustion and emission factors are established, alongside a simplified Eulerian (Gaussian) dispersion model adapted to the environmental characteristics of the Jiu Valley (Petroșani). Experimental data collection is ongoing in collaboration with environmental monitoring agencies and industrial partners. The long-term objective is the implementation of an integrated atmospheric pollution assessment model calibrated for Romanian industrial regions.
